Outside.in Raises $3 Million, Gets New CEO

Outside.in, the
hyper-local news Web site based in Brooklyn, has raised $3 million in its latest funding round and hired Mark
as its new CEO.  Co-founder Steven Johnson will remain as executive chairman.

Silicon Alley Insider notes that Outside.in‘s plans to connect users based on geography and its plan to be funded by local advertisers is a "no-brainer for the Web" which "no one’s been able to make work yet".  They also report that the company is currently testing new tools and services such as an analytics tools for local bloggers and publishers as well as "Radar", a service which will provide updates on news happening within a 1,000-foot radius of a user.

Investors in this round included Union Square Ventures, Betaworks, angel investors such as George Crowley, and The New York City Investment Fund.  In the last year, the company has raised $5.4 million.
