How ‘The NY Times’ Explains Twitter

NYConvergence ORIGINAL

While the "Grey Lady" has been making strides of late in pursuing a new digital strategy such as the paper's partnership with Facebook for its inauguration party or its TimesPeople social network, they're still working on educating their reporters about emerging microblogging service Twitter.  We recently came across an internal presentation made at The Times mid-2008 on the service which you can view in its almost-complete form here.  Some of the slides were modified before it was posted online to head off any discussion of this presentation being official Times policy on the use of Twitter by its reporters.

  • Hey,
I’d actually prefer if you linked to a newer version of the talk. http://nimblecode.com/articles/2009/01/10/another-twitter-talk
It’s a lot nicer in my opinion (although I’ve since revised it again!) I should also explain that this is just one of the many internal talks people do at the Times to explain such diverse topics as investigative basics, FOIA requests, twitter, etc. to people who aren’t familiar with the area, and doesn’t really reflect any given attitudes or ignorance about twitter at the Times. Thanks!
