NBC Universal has hired "prominent" local bloggers to provide content for its Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York stations' Web sites, including Lori Harfenist of The Resident, who is now contributing content for WNBC's new online home, NBC New York.
Although "edgier" than traditional reporters based on the description of her 2008 New York National Boat Show report for the channel's Web site in TVWeek, a check of the Web site's traffic through data publicly available on Quantcast indicates that she has about 2,700 unique visitors per month, far fewer than established blogs here in NYC such as Mediabistro's FishbowlNY, Gawker, and Gothamist. No additional mention was made in the article about what criteria was used in her selection as a contributor.
Update: Group Tumblr blog YoungManhattanite points out that we overlooked her experience which is detailed on her blog here. According to the article we read in TVWeek, which we'll link to when it's online, their main criteria was being "edgy."
