Microphone Technology Advances on Broadway

As theatrical musicals and plays in New York are becoming more technologically advanced and playing to larger theaters, more shows are using miniature microphones and high-tech sound systems to project the performances of the actors, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal

The article goes into great detail about how new mic technology, though still controversial in theatre circles, is now being incorporated into the art of the show, allowing actors to duplicate more realistic performances found on TV and films.  One example is how body mics, which were more commonplace musicals, are now being camouflaged on actors in plays.
