Animation Highlights Eldridge Street’s History

Computer programmer and amateur historian Zach van Schouwen, inspired while looking into the genealogy of his mother's side of his family and their first home on the street, has created an illustration to show what one block of Eldridge
Street in Manhattan's Lower East Side neighborhood would have looked like through eight generations of history.

The project, which van Schouwen calls "The Block,"
started in April.
