AG Investigates Retailers and Online “Discount Clubs”

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced today that his office is investigating more than 20 online retailers (including Barnes & Noble, Staples and Ticketmaster) regarding their relationships  with three online "discount clubs."  The clubs, Affinion, Vertrue and Webloyalty have been accused of tricking online shoppers into paying hidden fees.

Consumers, unbeknown to them, were tricked into enrolling in these discount clubs while buying things like movie tickets online.  Many users did not find out about the enrollment until they discovered monthly fees charged to their credit cards.
