AOL Plans to Jettison Bebo

AOL has told
employees that it plans to sell or shut down the social networking site Bebo.

AOL acquired the service two years ago for $850 million,
hoping to build on its popularity in Britain. However, Bebo has been unsuccessful
at attracting users in the United States, where Facebook increasingly dominates the social networking landscape.

AOL said it planned to decide what to do with the company by
the end of May.
