Cubic to Provide MetroCard Fare Collectors to NYCT

Under a $10 million contract signed last year, Cubic will provide more than 200 MetroCard Fare Collectors to New York City Transit. The Fare Collectors help NYCT speed bus service to handle increased ridership, and along with fewer stops, dedicated traffic lanes and stoplights that change when the buses near. The machines will be installed on three Select Bus Service routes, and are designed to resist snow and rain.

NYCT has been using the MetroCard system designed by Cubic for 17 years, processing more than eight million transactions a day. The new machines will let riders pay for their fares before the bus arrives. The installation follows a successful 2008 pilot program on a Select Bus Service route in the Bronx.
