Why-2K Movement Seeks Change in LLC Requirement

Members of the NY Tech Meetup are pushing for a change in the state law that requires new limited liability corporations to announce their formation in the media. Currently, every new LLC must advertise in two print publications for six weeks.

Advocates of the change have adopted the moniker "Why-2K?" for their campaign because the requirement can cost businesses up to $2,000.

They have at least one ally in government: Assemblyman Micah Kellner (D-Manhattan), who has introduced legislation to replace the publishing mandate with a $50 online registration fee.
