The New York Metropolitan Opera (Met) set a record for its high-definition opera transmission program, selling 2.2 million tickets worldwide this season. The program sold 1.8 million tickets last season.
"The Met: Live in HD" launched in Dec. 2006 and transmits opera performances to movie theaters around the world. The Met plans to expand the program by several hundred theaters including some in Spain and Portugal next year, raising participating countries to 46.
