NYC Craigslist Postings Define “Strictly Platonic”

The "Strictly Platonic" section of the New York City Craigslist page, while corrupted by some who seek sexual relationships, is filled with minds seeking other minds. The forum is enlightening because it represents a collaborative effort to define "platonic," The New York Times said.

Most posters seek conversation, whether live, e-mail, phone, text or chat. A 40-year old man looks for systematic, rigorous thinkers to talk over philosophy, aesthetics, linguistics and economic theory, for example. People looking for friends, want dance partners, fellow insomniacs, or people to go to movies or plays with them and women looking for women want companions in shopping, dieting, dancing or going to movies.
