Open-source social network Diaspora will be launching on September 15th according to Digital Media Wire. The venture, which has raised over $200,000 in funding using Kickstarter, was started by four NYU students in response to Facebook privacy issues.
The blog post states that the company has been working on "contextual sharing", which is Diaspora's term for "an
intuitive way for users to decide, and not notice deciding, what content goes
to their coworkers and what goes to their drinking buddies."
