A town on New York's Long Island has been using Google Earth to find pools that don't have proper permits. The town of Riverhead has used the service to find about 250 illegal pools, collecting around $75,000 in fees. While chief building inspector Leroy Barnes Jr. said that the pools were a safety hazard, privacy advocates have voiced concerns that the use of Google Earth reeks of 'Big Brother.'
A Google representative failed to comment about whether the company has concerns over how the town is using its services.
