Bloomberg Admin. to Proceed with Automated Water Reader Meters

In an op-ed in today's New York Daily News, columnist Juan Gonzalez calls out Mayor Bloomberg for a city project that he feels will be too much of a burden on NYC taxpayers – Automated Reader Meters.
According to the article, the Bloomberg administration wants to install wireless devices on all 800,000 waters meters in NYC, which ultimately would let home owners track online their daily water usage.

The catch is that the the project, which Gonzalez deems "nonessential," will cost $252 million and will save the city just $3 million annually . Moreover, taxpayers will be footing the bill through recent jumps in water and sewer rates, leading to pricier water bills
