New Yorkers, Don’t Sell Your Marathon Number on Craigslist

Some  runners who had hoped to participate in the ING New York City Marathon this Sunday are unable to run and are selling their numbers on Craigslist, a practice Marathon officials  call scalping. They say that anyone found selling their number will be banned from running the marathon again. Officials also point out that buyers of numbers will get a medal when they cross the finish line, but their names won’t be in the official record.
