Mayor Bloomberg’s office announced this week that the city is plans to set up an incubator in the Bronx to fuel startup potential in a new borough. The incubator contract was awarded to office sharing company Sunshine Suites, which has seceral locations in Manhattan. The building in the Bronx will be located at the BankNote Building on Garrison Avenue and will work with Baruch College for mentorships.
Mayor Bloomberg has high hopes for the incubator, stating “New York City continues to to be a center of innovation and entrepreneurship, and the Bronx is increasingly turning out new and growing businesses. More than 15,000 new businesses were established in the Bronx in 2008, the most recent period for which there is data, and we’re creating the new Bronx incubator to build on that momentum.”
