CultureNow Catalogs NYC’s “Museum Without Walls”

A New York City organization called CultureNow created an online catalog (Culturenow.org) of sculptures and murals throughout the city, the city’s trove of public art. Architect Abby Suckle and a staff of five are behind the “Museum Without Walls ” website, and for the past 10 years have documented, cataloged, photographed and put online more than 4500 pieces of art in NYC, a Daily News article said. The website now also catalogs public art in other US cities.

The website also has 252 podcasts made by some of the artists or people close to the project, more than 11,000 photographs, and includes the listing of art that fills the NY subway system. The site was born after 9/11, when a group of architects and designers created a map of art, cultural venues and historic buildings that were affected by the tragedy.
