Summit Asks: Are Tablets and E-Readers The Future?

During the DeSilva + Phillips Media Dealmakers Summit yesterday, the question “Are tablets and e-readers the future of media?” stirred up quite the debate. Colony, CEO of the Financial Times expressed that he believed they were the future but also that “We think the Web is dead.”  According to Folio:, he went on to speak how the app Internet is where media companies should be focused on. On the other hand Vivian Schiller of NPR expressed that, “Tablets are a piece of the puzzle, but not the whole puzzle.”

Roland DeSilva, a managing partner of DeSilva + Phillips expressed that many companies that came to the Summit were not focused on paying down debt but creating a digital transition. “The liquidity is going to fuel more deals. Most companies are owned by debt-base financial institutions. They can’t keep these businesses. It’s a perfect storm in a positive way.”
