The Startup Bus competition, which consisted of 38 teams of “buspreneurs,” departed on six buses from New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Cleveland, Miami and New York to head to the South by Southwest conference. The concept was that they had to conceive of an idea, take the time from departure to arrival in Austin to build a prototype, create a website for it, and get ready to pitch it to a team of judges.
Yesterday at SXSW, one of the two winners was from New York bus, which created TripMedi. TripMedi is designed to help those who take part in medical tourism. They plan to show where patients can go, benchmark the price of any procedure against what it would cost in the United States, highlight physicians, and have recommendations. So far the site received 1,300 unique visitors from 44 countries and 44 sign-ups.
