With Passover starting tonight at sundown, tech savvy Jews can now find a variety of holiday appropriate apps for their mobile devices. Since the holiday has a strong food connection, some of the more notable food sites such as Epicurious, BigOven and AllRecipes.com offer a variety of holiday recipes.  For example, according to The New York Times, the Epicurious app offers recipes for Passover Honey Nut Cake in Soaking Syrup and have have been “tested by chefs before being published in Condé Nast magazines like Gourmet, Self and Bon Appétit.

As for religious info, some apps for both Apple and Android devices include:

  • Haggadah ($3 for Apple), a brief and summarized version of the the text read at a Passover Seder
  • Union Haggadah ($1 on Android), a Reform version of the text
  • iMahNishtana ($1 on Apple), the Four Questions are presented via flash cards and recordings for children to memorize
  • Ma Nishtana ($1 on Android), which according to The Times “features a computerized voice that reads the Hebrew version,”  but the paper recommends going on YouTube, as it would be more effective for children
