BMW i Ventures Supports MyCityWay App

NY-based MyCityWay gives users day to day information helping them get around their city, including subway maps, restaurant reviews and event listings.  After winning$10,000 for being the “investor’s choice” and “popular choice” at the NYC BigApps competition in February 2010, the company gained the support of BMW.  The car company started a fund, BMW i Ventures, in February 2011, and its first investment was in MyCityWay.  BMW is also searching for a space to build its own incubator in NY, of which MyCityWay will be the first tenant.

MyCityWay’s app original was just for NY, but has since expanded to 38 U.S. cities, 12 foreign cities, and is preparing to release the app into four cities in India.  The app has been downloaded 2.5 million times and is currently being revamped to be more sophisticated, including altering the offerings by asking users if they are residents, commuters or tourists.  The company’s goal is to build “smarter cities” using their location-based platform.
