Columbia University’s Journalism School announced recently that it would launch a digital project called The New York World, aimed at NYC citizens, to provide information about government operations that affect their lives. The World will serve both as a website where citizens can learn more about how “services are allotted and tax dollars spent” and as a news service that provides stories and data to local news providers.
The World, which was funded by grants from donors, will be part of the J-school and work with the Tow Center for Digital Journalism. Columbia is hiring new and recent graduates to serve as reporters and data specialists for the World. The journalists will serve as post-doctoral fellows reporting to the editor.
