Next Issue Media, a consortium of five major NY publishers including Time Inc., Conde Nast, Hearst, Meredith and News Corp., has released app editions of seven major magazines that, according to AdAge, is the “first visible step toward the digital storefront for print that it was formed to deliver”. Today the consortium began offering seven app editions of magazines, including Time, The New Yorker and Esquire in a new “magazines” section of the Verizon’s V Cast store.
Next Issue Media was formed in late 2009 in order to take advantage of tablets, on the way from Apple and other manufacturers, and as a way to create a marketplace where the publishers could promote and sell digital editions on their own terms. That marketplace is expected to be launched at the end of this year.
