Christopher Poole, the founder of 4chan, today announced a new $3 million funding round for his new venture, Canvas. Union Square Ventures is leading the round, with all of Canvas’ previous angel investors also participating, including SV Angel, Lerer Ventures, Andressen Horowitz, Founder Collective and Joshua Schachter. Canvas previously raised $625,000 in seed funding.
The NY-based startup is a place for people to post media and have discussions. The most unique feature of Canvas, according to Poole, is a user’s ability to “remix” or edit images posted by another. Though the two ventures are very similar, Poole is keeping Canvas separate from 4chan, building it as its own company. Canvas has been in private beta since January.
