Citigroup to Credit Card Customers: “Data Was Hacked”

Citigroup acknowledged today that unidentified hackers had gained access to the data of “hundreds of thousands of its credit card customer in North America”. The New York Times reports that, according to the bank, only about one percent of its North American credit card holders had been affected.

In a statement released by Citigroup,  names, account numbers, and bot physical and email addresses were exposed, data such as social security number, date of birth, card expiration dates and CVV codes were not compromised. Moreover, the bank has implemented enhanced procedures to prevent further breaches and is notifying the customers whose information was compromised.
