AnyClip, the NY-based video metadata startup, has teamed up with Foursquare to launch their “Clip Trail” scavenger hunt. Users scan QR codes located in various places throughout NY to unlock video clips from movies filmed in that area. Those that check in to more than four locations will be eligible to win six months of free movies from NY’s Angelika Theater.
The sharing of Foursquare’s API for other applications is something founder Dennis Crowley recently spoke about at Internet Week NY. According to a report in AdWeek, Crowley said allowing other startups to use his API helps make “the whole ecosystem stronger.” He said big platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, must be open in order for other applications, like Foursquare, to succeed. Currently, more than 400,000 companies are using the Foursquare application to connect with their customers.
