LightSquared Network Interferes With GPS?

According to The Wall Street Journal, Philip Falcone‘s LightSquared network faces a setback as preliminary tests show that it could knock out some GPS systems. The interference problems could delay FCC approval of the new network along with creating problems for primary financial backer NY based Harbinger Capital Partners, the hedge fund led by Falcone.

There are also secondary consequences for businesses as LightSquared had signed deals with Best Buy Co. and Leap Wireless International Inc. to offer wholesale wireless internet service. Moreover, the delay could be a problem for AT&T, as they have cited LightSquared as a viable competitor to regulators in the antitrust review of its acquisition of T-Mobile.
