NY Republican Senator Greg Ball asked his Twitter and Facebook followers how to vote on the state’s gay marriage legislation. The majority of Ball’s Twitter followers favored the bill, while the votes were about evenly divided on Facebook.
Currently, the bill has passed the state assembly in a 80-63 vote and has the strong support of Governor Andrew Cuomo. However, the Senate appears deadlocked on the issue, seeking at least two more Republican votes for the bill to pass.

Greg Ball apparently is not aware that civil rights for minority groups should not be a popularity contest. After all, if the Civil Rights Act of 1964 had been put up for a popular vote in the Deep South, I think we all know how THAT would have turned out.
