The Next Web Explores NY Tech Scene’s Success

The Next Web recently explored why NY’s tech scene has been thriving.  NY startups like Foursquare and Meetup have enabled connections within the tech community, creating more accessible opportunities for entrepreneurs, engineers and tech enthusiasts.  NY tech companies have also been focusing on innovation of the technical infrastructure Silicon Valley previously built.  The tech industry in NY is just one of many booming industries, placing it in a unique position to foster connection and corporation between different sectors.  NY’s tech industry is also standing out for its increase in female entrepreneurs, including Mayor Bloomberg‘s Chief Digital Officer, Rachel Sterne.

The article also chose Kickstarter, a funding platform for creative people, as a startup that best defines NY because of its focus on digital collaboration.  Foursquare was the runner-up for reflecting the hyperlocal, social, all time nature of NY, and Tumblr was the audience’s choice.
