BillGuard, a NY-based startup, is a free service that flags hidden fees, errors and fraudulent charges on credit card statements. In May, at TechCruch Disrupt NY, Fred Wilson told the startup they should charge users a percentage of the money saved by using the service.
But CEO Yaron Samid defended his decision to keep the beta version free, saying that the real–multi-billion dollar–value of his startup is in the backend, working with bank and merchants.
