The Connecticut attorney general’s office has acknowledged that it is conducting an investigation into whether deals from Groupon, the popular daily deals site, are considered the same as gift certificates.  Connecticut law “bans expiration dates” for gift certificates, meaning that if a deal from Groupon is the same as a gift certificate, its daily deals (which are only actionable for a limited time by users), may be against the law.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Groupon thus far has issued a statement saying “it intends to cooperate with the Connecticut attorney general and help “him and his team understand our business model.'”
