New York magazine recently partnered with online dating site HowAboutWe.com to create a new dating website. The magazine has decided to expand its revenue stream by creating a modern version of the personal ads that used to be seen in the classified section.

According to emedia vitals, this is a change from an earlier time when the publication, amongst others, “enjoyed revenue from back-of-the-book personal ads, until websites such as Craigslist and eHarmony took over.” Recognizing this shift,  New York early on developed a partnerships with dating sites, such as one with the now defunct Spring Street Networks back in 2001.
