Quick Response (QR) codes were all the rage during New York’s Fashion Week earlier this month, according to the New York Times. Some of the examples of the tech in action included:

  • Smartphone users scanning the QR code on a Skanz bracelet and viewing an individual’s person information
  • Tiffany’s gave out cookies that, when scanned, showcased an invitation to a concert with Leighton Meester
  • Pink Barbie-themed buses carried the code, as did postcards for a “fashion hunt” with the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District and the blog Madison Avenue Spy

According to the Times, social media can heighten the influence of the technology, as the Skanz QR bracelets connected people to a personalized Skanzsite, consisting of the wearer’s contact information, photos, videos, favorite things and links to social media pages such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Tumblr, Google+ and Flickr.
