The law banning texting while driving, signed in July by NY Governor Cuomo, has nearly doubled in tickets compared to last year, as the law was made a primary traffic offense.

According to Reuters, in August “police issued tickets to 1,082 drivers using hand-held devices behind the wheel.” The penalty has also increased from a two-point to a three-point violation.
