Financial services on Wall Street, once slow to accept new consumer technologies are creating tablet applications because their clients use them intensively, particularly during commuting and before markets open. Smartphone apps are also taking off because new, wider screens enable better web browsing. Brad Strothkamp, of Forrester Research told Wall Street & Technology, that financial services are creating apps unique to mobile devices, that can’t be replicated on a computer.

Built-in cameras and sensors now allow users to pay bills, deposit and transfer money with smartphones. Mobile devices will eventually replace desktop PCs. Nicole Sherrod, a managing director at TD Ameritrade, told WS&T that wireless devices could overtake PCs as the gateway to brokerage accounts as early as 2013.
