Sonar Connects New Contacts via LinkedIn

New York startup Sonar recently displayed a version of its networking app that included LinkedIn, as Xconomy reports the company is trying to attract more professionals to the “ranks of its users.” This is seen as a competitive move in making social connections both more effective and mobile.

Sonar users are introduced to contacts based on mutual connections; through Foursquare checkins, Sonar sends alerts of people in the area to users via their Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn accounts. The app is currently available for iPhone but not yet accessible by Android or Blackberry users.

According to Xconomy, Sonar’s CEO Brett Martin says his company has made more than 60,000 introductions since its app’s debut in May at TechCrunch Disrupt NYC. Despite there being other apps available for maintaining track of contacts, including leading rival Pearescope, Sonar is said to be the first to introduce users to new connections in person. The addition of LinkedIn data, Martin told Xconomy, can make the app especially useful for networking purposes.

Thanks for picking up the news!  Only problem is that y’all are using another company’s logo!  We are the cute little yellow sub.

    Best,
    Brett from Sonar
