Guardian News & Media (GNM), the UK publisher of the Guardian newspaper, announced yesterday that it is in the process of selling its NY-based subsidiary, ContentNext Media (producer of news site paidContent), to a few potential buyers. Though they are still in the early stages of the deal, they have received several offers and investors have expressed interest.

ContentNext, which was founded in 2002 by Rafat Ali, was bought by GNM in July 2008 and according to paidContent, the original acquisition was part of the GNM’s plans to expand into media and technology verticals, as well as into the U.S. market.  From a traffic standpoint, it has since successfully published paidContent.org, mocoNews.net, and contentSutra.com, which across all sites from October 2009 to October 2011  grew 71 percent to 808,000 uniques and page views increased 13 percent to over 1.67 million.

According to paidContent, GNM hopes to focus more on the growth of the core business at Guardian rather than its ancillary businesses.
