NY-Based Matchmaking Site Launches for Modern Orthodox Jews

Recently, The Jewish Week took a closer look at JS MatchPoint, a new online matchmaking website for young, Modern Orthodox Jews looking to date and ultimately marry.  The site is taking a different route on how these individuals, can find partners, as apposed to more established Jewish dating sites such Frumster and JDate.

The site was created by Sharon Haberman with the help of the social entrepreneurship agency, PresenTense. Haberman is an Upper West Side mother of five and former lawyer who aims to establish a social network for Modern Orthodox Jews who are looking to date and eventually marry. In addition to the traditional online matchmaker approach, the organization also has a unique aspect, that is, it provides mentorship for amateur matchmakers with guidance from professionals, psychologists and social workers.

Haberman’s site gains its inspiration from that of YuConnects, a program initiated at Yeshiva University and Stern College which facilitates relationships between their students and alumni. The matchmakers of YuConnects are all trained through comprehensive seminars and it is believed that the success of the site – claimed to be 72 matches since 2008 – is due to this training that the matchmakers receive. And so, Haberman seeks to harness that same methodology to expedite the success of JS Matchpoint in a similar way.
