The New York City Economic Development Corporation is hosting its first NYC BigApps Hackathon this weekend, starting tonight at 7 p.m. at Pivotal Labs. The event will help participants kick start their entries for the upcoming NYC BigApps 3.0, an event that will allow developers to create mobile apps using NY government data.  NYC BigApps Hackathon will help competitors explore NYC Open Data, find their teammates for the competition and network with representatives providing API, resulting in $2, 500 worth of prizes for the best hacks.

The three day event will judge developers on quality, implementation and potential impact. Among the many judges, ranging from venture capitalists to representatives of successful starts up, from the NY tech scene are:

  • Amish Jani – Founder and Managing Director, FirstMark Capital
  • Chris Wiggins – Co-founder, HackNY and Associate Professor, Columbia University
  • Josh Knowles – Managing Director, Pivotal Labs (New York Office)
  • Kellan Elliott-McCrea – CTO, Etsy
