NY Apartment seekers in today’s age are having an easier time finding the right place that fits their needs due to the rise in brokerage websites. These psuedo social-network sites are working to eliminate brokerage fees, and make the looking process smooth. Among the approximately 30 sites out there are ten month old InsideDigs.com and the ever-popular Craigslist.

According to Crain’s New York, “apartment seekers are increasingly eager to avoid paying broker fees that range from one month’s rent to 15% of a year’s rent.” Founded by a former broker, Rentenna helps hunters with a scoring system that ranks landlords, neighborhoods, and other factors that come into play when searching for an apartment. Over the last 5 months, the site has acquired approximately 1, 000 registered users. UrbanEdgeNY.com provides users with a no-fee apartment listing from landlords and has been acknowledged as the top rental site for its design, up-to-date listings and accuracy.

While these sites recognize eliminating the use of brokers is nearly impossible, NakedApartments.com has created a hybrid between the two ideas. The site allows users to search for free but instilled a monthly subscription fee for brokers and landlords and the site has been profitable for some time because of their model.
