AT&T recently announced that they would be launching the new 4G LTE wireless service in NY and other areas by the end of the year.  At a recent UBS analyst conference in NY,  AT&T CFO, John Stephens said that their push for such a quick launch is due to the rapid growth in demand for mobile broadband services.

In addition, the fact that NY is an area where AT&T receives the most complaints regarding dropped calls and lost service among iPhone users, a speedy launch may be a good idea, according to MediaPost. Also, record sales in smartphones make the 4G LTE somewhat of an urgent innovation. AT&T sold over 1 million iPhone 4S’ in just the first week of release and over 6 million smartphones in the initial two months of the most recent fiscal quarter.

AT&T competitor Verizon, already has 4G LTE out in the market, and Sprint is planning its launch for the latter half of 2012.
