City to Re-launch NYC.gov in 2012

In 2012, the city will re-launch its website, NYC.gov.  Expect to see an increased social media presence with a new or improved Foursquare badges, Facebook page and @nycgov Twitter feed, according to Govfresh.

According to Rachel Sterne, NY’s chief digital officer, the city’s approach to technology stems from Mayor Bloomberg’s commitment to technology and a metrics-based strategy. The city created The Social Media Advisory and Research Taskforce to implement new and evolve current technological practices.

According to the administration, the city also benefits from the tech community’s input. They helped refine practices at the Reinvent NYC.GOVhackathon and by creating applications using the city’s OpenData platform. The city also partners with with the likes of Bitly, Buddy Media, Facebook, Foursquare, Google, Soundcloud, Twitter, Tumblr and YouTube. “We use their tools and products all the time, and their help has made a world of difference,” Sterne told Govfresh.
