In an effort to generate greater economic growth within NY state, Governor Andrew Cuomo recently announced $785 million in grants from the Regional Economic Development Council program. However, despite the potential for information technology and digital media initiatives to drive future economic growth in NY, only four out of 715 funded projects will aid this emerging sector.
NY City will receive $550,000 to launch new technology companies for NYC Seedstart LLC, and an additional $10,880 for electronic medical records training will be awarded to the Catholic Health Care System. The other two info tech grants were for the Long Island region. NYIT will obtain a grant of $400,000 to expand its industry-academic partnerships and Accelerate Long Island will receive $500,000 to support start-up technology firms.
