In a study made by the Taxi and Limousine Commission, which surveyed approximately 113,000 NYers, nearly half of taxi riders are not fans of the in-cab TV sets, and 17% of those people actually hate them. However, there is still a good amount of people that do enjoy the entertainment, which includes ABC and NBC news programming, local event information and dining suggestions.
According to Metro, ad revenue received from the TVs do not actually go to the government. Instead, VeriFone Systems and Creative Mobile Technologies, which were the companies that paid for the installations, get to keep most of the profits, with a small cut to taxi medallion owners.
