The days when law school students were almost guaranteed to find a job in the U.S. are ostensibly over. For this reason, Robert Niznik, a recent New York Law School grad, founded Shpoonkle, a peer to peer online marketplace with on a focus on finding employment for law school graduates. According to BetaBeat, as many as 50 percent of law school grads are struggling to find full time legal work after school.
“With our model, we’ve been able to cut the cost of legal work to under $200 an hour and match a lot of lawyers hungry for work with new clients,” Niznik told BetaBeat. Upon recognizing the vast unemployment law school grads now must endure, Niznik started the company about eight months ago. Although some critics argue that this model engenders lawyers to bid against one another, Shpoonkle appears to be making its way.
The company since March has grown from eight to thirty-five employees.
