Top Silicon Alley Tech Companies to Watch in 2012

IB Times New York previewed what it thought would be the top tech companies to watch in Silicon Alley for 2012. The list included some of the usual suspects and some new names:

  • Fab.com, the design sales site that recently changed its business model from hosting a social network for the gay community to selling design merchandise
  • Zipmark, an online and mobile payments platform described as a “digital checkbook”
  • Style for Hire, a personal-stylist startup founded by Stacy London the host of TLC’s What Not To Wear
  • Tumblr, the popular blogging platform that received $85 million in funding in Sept. from unnamed investors
  • Jun Group, an online video specialist in social video creation
  • Foursquare, which it called a geo-locational gaming platform
  • Refinery29, a fashion, blog and sales site
  • Boxee, the open source freeware media player. “As more homes begin to adopt the media center as a living room device, expect Boxee to become an even greater force.”
  • Gilt Groupe, the upscale flash sales site.
