CBS Sports is partnering with Major League Baseball and Bloomberg LP to create apps for fantasy sports. It’s opening up its site to other smaller developers to build products. The site will offer free and paid apps, with CBSSports.com keeping 30 percent of the paid app sales.

“The target audience for any one of these [products] is relatively niche,” Jim Lanzone, president of CBS Interactive, told the Wall Street Journal. “We just happen to have a big platform that people can plug into.”

According to the Journal, fantasy sports enthusiasts spend roughly $800 million annually. The leagues are hosted by Yahoo Sports, ESPN.com, and CBSSports.com. One of MLB’s apps will show the live game footage that is most relevant to subscribers’ fantasy teams. CBSSports charges users to play in their fantasy leagues, which executives say makes it more likely that they will pay for apps.
