David Karp, the CEO and founder of the quirky NY-based blogging platform Tumblr, says that his blogging platform now reaches 120 million people and gets 15 billion page views monthly. The startup took the “road less traveled” for social networking sites, building the community around the content creators and rejecting commenting and tagging.
The company also went “all in” on its NY orientation, saying that that while the company hires from all over the U.S., it brings everyone to NY. “It’s really been wonderful being the underdogs,” Karp says to VentureBeat. Next up for Tumblr: reaching out to international users.
