Fresh Direct Says No to Jersey, Yes to The Bronx

Although New Jersey tried to poach it, online grocery retailer Fresh Direct will build its new headquarters in the Bronx. The company plans to move into the space at the Harlem River Yards in 2015, an article in Crain’s New York Business said.

New Jersey had hoped to lure the Long Island City, Queens-based company to a location in Jersey City with about $100 million in incentives, but New York’s package of incentives, worth about $127 million won out. The package includes $89.4 million from the city. a $33.9 million in tax credits, grants and loans from the state, Crain’s said.

Fresh Direct expects to add another 1,000 jobs to its current 1,963 workforce in the next five years.
