Huttenlocher to Head New Cornell Applied Science Campus

At the same press conference yesterday at Tumblr’s HQ, where Mayor Bloomberg discussed NYCGov’s website initiatives, he also announced the appointment of Daniel P. Huttenlocher as the founding dean of the city’s new Cornell’s applied science campus on Roosevelt Island. Huttenlocher, Cornell’s dean of computing and information sciences, said that he’s already received inquiries about possible faculty positions.

Cathy Dove, an associate dean at Cornell’s college of engineering, will become the school’s new vice president. Craig Gotsman will serve as the founding director of the Technion-Cornell Innovation Institute, a partnership with the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Huttenlocher called  the new graduate school is an unprecedented opportunity, saying, “It’s a startup within a university.”
